Premier League side Burnley have made an £11.5m bid to sign Joe Worrall from Championship giants Nottingham Forest but they will have to pay far more.
Nottingham Forest are determined to keep Joe Worrall this month. Fortunately, the homegrown centre-back will make the Championship club’s task a little easier as he has no interest in bidding farewell to the City Ground before the end of the month.
“I am committed to Forest. Everybody knows I’m a fan. I love playing for the club and don’t want to leave,” Worrall said earlier in the week in quotes reported by the BBC.
So Burnley’s hopes of finally bringing the highly-rated defender to Turf Moor appear to be very ambitious indeed.
The Mail stated earlier in the month that Crystal Palace were also interested. And, despite the arrival of Jarsolaw Jach, the Eagles could still do from another defensive addition with Scott Dann and Mamadou Sakho out with long-term injuries.
Yet it appears that Palace have instead turned their attention to signing Lille captain Amadou Ibrahim, offering £16 million according to Sky Sports, so Burnely may be the only Premier League club still interested in signing Worrall before the month is out.
Oliver Burke is currently the biggest export in Forest’s history, joining RB Leipzig in the summer of 2016 for £13 million, as reported by the BBC. But if Burnley were to stump up a club-record bid for Worrall, he would become the most expensive defender in Championship history.
Nonetheless, it appears the chances of Worrall posing in claret and blue before the end of the day are decidedly slim.
