After two years in the Championship, it seems that Nottingham Forest’s Thomas Lam is set to return to the Eredivisie.
Despite an impressive pre-season, Thomas Lam finds himself well down the pecking order at Nottingham Forest.
The Finnish defender stood out over the summer and earned plenty of praise from manager Aitor Karanka. But with Michael Dawson, Tobias Figueiredo, Danny Fox, Jack Robinson, Joe Worrall and Michael Hefele all options at centre-back, Lam has not been included in the matchday squad for any of Forest’s four Championship fixtures so far.
And it seems that the 24-year-old is now set to rejoin the club he left in order to move to the City Ground in 2016.
According to PEC.nu, Lam is set to return to PEC Zwolle two years after leaving the Eredivisie club. The 19-time international moved to the Enschede side from AZ Alkmaar in 2014 and made 70 appearances in two seasons, losing the KNVB Cup final to Grongingen.
Now managed by John Van’t Schip, Zwolle finished ninth in the Eredivisie last season, tumbling down the table after an excellent start to the campaign.
Lam has just one year left on his contract at Nottingham Forest and PEC have money to spend after losing New Zealand international Ryan Thomas to reigning champions PSV Eindhoven last week.
