Nottingham Forest are closing in on a deal for Dinamo Moscow midfielder Samba Sow, according to the BBC.

With academy graduate Ben Osborn heading to Sheffield United and Adlene Guedioura eyeing a fresh start away from the City Ground, new manager Sabri Lamouchi has made it clear that a new midfielder is a must before the transfer window slams shut.

Lamouchi even went into specifics. Speaking to the Post, the former Rennes boss said he wanted a player with both height and power. Sow certainly ticks a lot of boxes.

A 30-year-old enforcer who stands at 6ft 1ins, Sow averaged over three tackles per game in the Russian Premier League last season while accumulating an impressive eight yellow cards. These statistics alone speak volumes about what the 36-time Mali international will bring to the two-time European champions.

As reported by the Nottingham Post, Sow spent time on trial at Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2013, before he left Lens for Turkey.

Six years on, it looks like the veteran midfielder is edging closer to a belated move to one of the Championship’s biggest clubs.

Sow could form a new-look midfield partnership with Benfica loanee Alfa Semedo and his potential arrival doesn’t look good for Ben Watson and Ryan Yates, regulars under Martin O’Neill who could now find game-time increasingly hard to come by.
