Gboly Ariyibi was expected to leave Championship giants Nottingham Forest and re-join his former club Chesterfield on loan.

It has not worked out for Gboly Ariyibi at Nottingham Forest.

The tricky winger arrived at the City Ground from Chesterfield in the winter of 2017 for a fee of around £500,000. But 19 months later and he still hasn’t made his debut for the former European Cup winners.

Ariyibi spent last season on loan at MK Dons and Northampton and it seems that another temporary move is on the cards.

According to the Nottingham Post, Forest agreed to send Ariyibi back to Chesterfield for the next few months as he aims to get his career back on track.

Chesterfield were a League One side when the 24-year-old left for Forest. Now, however, they are stuck in non-league after being relegated from League Two last season.

The Derbyshire Times, however, claims that Ariyibi would prefer to stay put for the time being at least, meaning that a return to the Proact Stadium is in doubt as things stand.

You can see why the USA Under-21 international would not want to drop out of the Football League, but the influx of new faces at Nottingham Forest will only make first-team opportunities harder to come by.
