Angus Gunn could follow in his father’s footsteps by playing in goal for Norwich City with Manchester City set to loan him out.

The word ‘legend’ may be tossed around far too frequently these days but it is difficult to think of any other term to describe Bryan Gunn

The long-serving shot-stopper made over 400 appearances for Norwich City from 1986 to 1998, the most famous of which the European Cup win over Bayern Munich in 1993 – arguably the greatest victory in the club’s history.

And it appears that the Gunn legacy at Carrow Road may yet have another chapter. According to The Sun, Norwich are interested in signing Bryan’s talented 21-year-old son Angus this summer.

The youngster has followed in his father’s footsteps by donning the goalkeeper gloves and Norwich fans of a certain age could be forgiven for letting themselves get a little misty eyed if they see ‘1. Gunn’ on the team-sheet next season.

With the experienced John Ruddy somewhat surprisingly shown the door after his contract expired, and back-up Michael McGovern tipped to depart, Gunn could be playing regular first-team football for the first time in his burgeoning career next season.

And this should benefit Manchester City as much as Norwich. Manager Pep Guardiola is understood to be a firm admirer of the shot-stopper, including him on City’s pre-season tour last summer.

Starring against Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, Bryan told talkSPORT that his son had made a promising impression on Guardiola.

And with Benfica’s Ederson likely to become the world’s second most expensive goalkeeper when he finally completes his move to the Etihad Stadium, a year away on loan could be the making of Gunn Jr.
