Nice are preparing a new offer for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos after seeing an £8 million bid rejected this week, according to Calciomercato.

The Ligue 1 outfit are scouring the market for a centre-forward having seen Mario Balotelli complete his protracted move to French top flight rivals Marseille a few days ago with Colombian hit man Morelos understood to be their top target.

They will have to pay far more than £8 million, however, after Rangers manager Steven Gerrard hit out at Nice’s ‘disrespectful’ first offer, as reported by the Daily Record.

The former Liverpool skipper indicated that Morelos is worth twice as much, having scored 20 goals and set up 10 more in all competitions this season.

Gerrard has stood firm on the former HJK Helsinki talisman so far, making it clear that he has no plans to let his top scorer go with a Scottish Premierships title in his sights.

And, according to Maxifoot, Nice have a number of alternative targets in mind. Bournemouth bench-warmer Lys Mousset is an option while they are also interested in bringing Valere Germain back from Marseille, the hard-working forward having scored 14 Ligue 1 goals during a loan spell at Nice in 2015/16.
