Championship challengers Leeds United are understood to be interested in Newcastle’s Premier League goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.
Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has indicated that fans should prepare for a quiet January, as reported by the YEP, but that has not stopped the Yorkshire club being linked with the promising Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.
According to the Chronicle, Leeds have enquired about the prospect of signing Woodman on loan for the second half of the season.
The 21-year-old has been open about his frustrations at Newcastle, given that he has failed to make a single first-team appearance under Rafa Benitez since returning from a short spell at Aberdeen in May.
But, according to the Mirror (live blog, 12.58am), both Leeds and Woodman could end up kicking the floor in frustration.
Because it is understood that Newcastle will not let the England U20 World Cup winner leave on loan as long as back-up goalkeeper Karl Darlow remains on the sidelines through injury.
Darlow, who is second choice behind Martin Dubravka on Tyneside, is currently out with an elbow injury, meaning Woodman was promoted to the bench for the 1-1 draw at home to Everton on Wednesday night.
So Leeds will be praying that Darlow makes a speedy recovery – otherwise Woodman will surely stay put.
