Axel Tuanzebe spent time on loan at Aston Villa under Steve Bruce in 2018; could they work together again in the Premier League at Newcastle United?
Steve Bruce is hoping to reunite with Axel Tuanzebe this summer with Newcastle United eyeing a deal for the Manchester United defender, as reported by the Mail.
After signing £36 million Brazilian Joelinton to replace the departed Salomon Rondon, Bruce appears to have turned his attention to strengthening the Magpies’ back line with the Premier League curtain-raiser just a fortnight away.
Newcastle have offered £4.5 million for Angers right-back Emil Krafth, according to the Sun, and now England U21 international Tuanzebe has emerged as a target.
The Congo-born 21-year-old is facing an uncertain future right now. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear that he is a big fan of the Manchester United academy graduate but it remains to be seen whether he will stay at Old Trafford amid the club’s high-profile pursuit of Harry Maguire.
If Tuanzebe is free to leave, either on loan or permanently, the Mail believes that Bruce would love to reunite with a player who he signed for Aston Villa during the second half of the 2017/18 season.
For now, however, it seems unlikely that Tuanzebe will be on his way to Tyneside.
Even if Maguire does swap Leicester for the ‘Theatre of Dreams’, surely Solskjaer would prefer to cash in on Phil Jones or Chris Smalling rather than a talented, homegrown defender whose best years are yet to come.
