Newcastle signed Salomon Rondon on loan from West Brom this summer.

Salomon Rondon has had a slow start to life at Newcastle United.
The Venezuelan striker moved to St James’ Park on a season-long loan from West Brom in the summer with Dwight Gayle going the other way. But Rondon has failed to score in five Premier League games for his new employers and only recently made his return following a month out with a thigh injury.
So this does not bode well for any hopes Rondon may have of staying at Newcastle for the long-term.
According to The Chronicle, it looks very unlikely at this stage that Newcastle will look to sign the former Malaga and Zenit St Petersburg striker on a permanent basis.
Whether this is due to his limited impact, or because of financial reasons, remains to be seen.

Rondon had a £16.5 million release clause in his contract during the summer, a fee Newcastle could not afford to pay. And, according to The Mail, West Brom activated a 12-month extension to his deal in August, a move that gets rid of the release clause.
So if Newcastle did perform a U-turn on Rondon’s future, they would have to negotiate a potentially hefty fee with The Baggies.
