One year after leaving Spain for the Premier League and Newcastle United, Florian Lejeune has been linked with a return to La Liga with Sevilla.

Florian Lejeune took a while to get going at Newcastle United, not least because of a crunching challenge from Harry Kane on his Magpies debut which left him on the sidelines for two months.

But, once he recovered and settled into life in English football, the Spanish centre-back quickly became a key player for Rafa Benitez. Lejeune, who joined Newcastle for £8.7 million from La Liga overachievers Eibar, established a solid partnership with influential captain Jamaal Lascelles, leaving both Ciaran Clarke and Chancel Mbemba collecting splinters on the bench.

So do not expect Newcastle to be willing to sell Lejuene this summer amid interest from Sevilla.

Estadio Deportivo are claiming that the Andalucian giants are after a new centre-back, particularly with the prodigious Frenchman Clement Lenglet expected to leave for Barcelona.

And Sevilla’s new coach Pablo Machin knows Lejuene well from their time together at Girona in the 2015/16 season.

But, the report adds, Newcastle would want a substantial profit on a player who managed 24 starts in his debut Premier League season, helping the newly promoted Tyneside giants finish in the top half of the table.

The Chronicle stated recently that Benitez had made both Mbemba and Clark available while Lascelles continues to attract interest from big-spending sides, meaning interest in Lejeune will not be well received.
