Serie A giants Roma could sell Bruno Peres to the Premier League, with both Newcastle United and West Ham United interested.
As recently as the summer of 2016, some of Europe’s biggest clubs were going head-to-head to sign Torino’s Brazilian right-back Bruno Peres.
Ligue 1 giants PSG were also keen on a player who looked set for a big future at the top of the European game.
So with all due respect to Newcastle United, it rather sums up just how disappointing Peres has been since swapping Torino for Roma later in 2016 that St James’ Park is now a far more likely destination than the Allianz Arena or Parc des Princes.
According to Il Tempo (19th January, page 21) Newcastle have enquired about the availability of Peres with Roma reportedly willing to consider offers of around £8 million. That is not bad value for the 27-year-old who, despite starting just six Serie A games this season, is a player with real attacking quality when at his best.
Newcastle already have DeAndre Yedlin and Javi Manquillo as options at right-back, but it is fair to say Peres, even though he has not quite fulfilled his potential, would be an immediate upgrade.
Il Tempo adds that West Ham are also keen on signing Peres this month, with the ageing Pablo Zabaleta enduring a couple of difficult outings. Sam Byram has barely got a look-in this season and the versatile Michail Antonio has suffered a serious injury, leaving the Hammers light of options.
