Piatek has scored nine goals in 12 Serie A games for Genoa but could Newcastle United really bring him to the Premier League?

If there were any doubts about whether Krzysztof Piatek could make the step up to Serie A level after joining Genoa from Cracovia for just £3 million, the Polish striker quickly set about silencing the cynics.
And Piatek’s stunning form in Italy’s top flight has seemingly caught the eye of Newcastle United, at least according to the Northern Echo.
The Magpies have struggled for goals all season though they have found form in the last two games, beating Watford and Bournemouth before the international break with Salomon Rondon scoring his first two Premier League goals for the club against The Cherries.
Piatek, however, would be a welcome addition in attack and would tick a lot of boxes for Newcastle. He looks like a natural-born goalscorer after all, having scored 13 goals in 13 games for Genoa so far including nine in 12 Serie A matches.
And at the age of 23, he would be a typical Newcastle signing in that he boasts a potentially massive re-sale value.

The Chronicle, meanwhile, reported this week that owner Mike Ashley would be willing to break Newcastle’s transfer record for the first time since 2005 if the right player came along.
And he might have to for Piatek, with the Northern Echo adding that he is likely to command an eight-figure transfer fee.
