Could Nemanja Gudelj be on his way to the Premier League with Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United?
Newcastle United are interested in offering Nemanja Gudelj a route back into the European game this summer, according to O Jogo.
The 27-year-old Serbian midfielder, who has won 22 caps for his country, is one of a number of players who willingly chased the money all the way to the Far East. Gudelj joined Tianjin TEDA in 2017 and is currently contracted to Guangzhou Evergrande, where he earns around £100,000 a week.
But money can only buy you so much professional happiness and O Jogo claims that Gudelj is keen to return to a much more respected league this summer.
And Newcastle are apparently interested, alongside La Liga outfit Real Betis and Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
The Belgrade-born midfielder spent time on loan at Sporting Lisbon last season but he enjoyed the best years of his career in Holland. Gudelj shone during the 2014/15 campaign at AZ, showing his qualities as a goalscoring presence with 12 to his name, before joining Ajax.
And should he join Newcastle, Gudelj would give fans plenty to be excited about with his thumping strikes from distance and superb passing range perhaps providing The Magpies with a more reliable alternative to the exit-linked Jonjo Shelvey.
