Premier League relegation battlers Newcastle United made a bid for Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues in the summer and were snubbed again in January.

Newcastle United’s links with Cape Verde international Garry Rodrigues go back to last summer.
Turkish Football claim that Galatasaray rejected a £6 million bid from the Tyneside giants in August. And Gunes has now stated that Newcastle saw a second offer for Rodrigues turned down once again in January.
It is understood that the Magpies offered £7 million this time for the 27-year-old winger, who has been in fine form for the Istanbul side this season. Rodrigues, who can play on either flank, has set up six goals in 16 league starts.

And with Galatasaray fighting for the title, sitting a point clear of Istanbul BB at the top of the table, experienced manager Fatih Terim understandably did not want to lose another key player after seeing midfielder Bodou Ndiaye leave for Stoke City for £14 million last month.
So Newcastle have the Potters to blame somewhat then for missing out on Rodrigues for the second successive transfer window.

The journeyman winger, who has played for teams in Holland, Spain, Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey since 2013, would have added creativity and versatility to Rafa Benitez’s frontline with Newcastle averaging less than a goal a game in the Premier League this season.
Fortunately, however, Benitez did enhance his side by bringing in Kenedy on loan from Chelsea and the Brazilian has enjoyed a very impressive start to life at St. James’ Park.
