Toulouse goalkeeper Alban Lafont is Ligue 1’s answer to Donarumma and it would be a major coup if Newcastle United lured him to the Premier League.

There has been plenty of talk about an alleged lack of ambition on Newcastle United’s part in the transfer market so links with arguably Europe’s most exciting goalkeeping prospect should raise plenty of eyebrows on Tyneside.

Lafont became the youngest shot-stopper ever to appear in Ligue 1 when he was handed his Toulouse debut at the age of 16 in a clash with Nice in 2015, and the teenager has never looked back, establishing himself as the club’s number one ever since.

Now, at the age of 19, this remarkable young goalkeeper with truly outstanding reflexes appears to be attracting genuine interest from clubs higher up the footballing hierarchy.

According to L’Equipe, Newcastle United are one such club.

There is an interesting goalkeeping battle going on at Tyneside right now. Marvin Dubravka has cemented cult hero status already and, according to The Mirror, is set to make his loan move from Sparta Prague permanent.

Newcastle also have Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot in their ranks too, but Lafont, despite his tender age, would perhaps blow them all out the water if he made a shock move to St James’ Park at the end of this season.

France’s answer to Gianluigi Donnarumma, there is no ceiling to the France U20 star’s potential, and, although money is tight at Newcastle, even Mike Ashley should see the benefit of paying a fee of over £10 million to sign a player who could cost far, far more in a few years’ time.
