Newcastle United appear to be stepping up their attempts to bring Atlanta midfielder Miguel Almiron to the Premier League in the January transfer window.

The Miguel Almiron saga has been given another chapter.
The Paraguayan international has been linked with a big-money move to England for the last few months after some outstanding performances across the Atlantic with Atlanta United.
And with the American season over, Almiron inspiring his side to a triumph in the final of the MLS Cup last week, it seems that the 24-year-old has played his final game in US soccer.
Newcastle United are understood to be leading the race ahead of the likes of West Ham and Arsenal, according to The Sun, and reports from Almiron’s homeland have provided another update.
Paraguayan publication El Intransigente have claimed that Newcastle have offered a club-record £22 million for the playmaker with a deal between the two clubs believed to have already been agreed.

Interestingly, this comes just two days after the Northern Echo claimed that Mike Ashley’s attempts to sell The Magpies as soon as possible could get in the way of a move to bring the assist-king to St James’ Park.
Though if Almiron does complete a £22 million deal, he will become Newcastle’s record signing, 14 years after Michael Owen arrived from Real Madrid.
The gifted midfielder scored and assisted 26 goals in 38 games for Atlanta in the 2018 campaign.
