Rafa Benitez is determined to sign a new striker for Newcastle United, and Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge could be their January saviour.

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is hoping to sign a proven Premier League striker on a restricted budget. Hens’ teeth would be easier to get hold off.
But the Northern Echo suggests that Benitez will now turn his attention to Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge – and he may have a great chance of getting a deal over the line, with the England international out of favour at Anfield.
Despite seemingly putting those nagging injury issues behind him, Sturridge has found himself well down the pecking order under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. With Roberto Firmino preferred up front – and even Dominic Solanke getting the nod of late – the 28-year-old has been limited to just five Premier League starts this season.

And the report claims that Benitez will attempt to hand Sturridge a fresh start at the Stadium of Light – though he is also interested in another out-of-favour Liverpool striker in Danny Ings.
It is understood that Sturridge has options from abroad, rumoured to include La Liga side Real Betis, but would rather remain in the Premier League with a World Cup on the horizon.

Due to Newcastle’s uncertain finances, a loan move is most likely – though it remains to be seen whether the club could afford to pay his £125,000-a-week wages.
Though if The Magpies do get their man, they will be signing a player who has an excellent record against them. Per Transfermarkt, Sturridge has netted seven times in 12 games versus Newcastle, including two in a 6-0 away win for Liverpool back in April 2013. Sturridge has not scored more against any other team.
