Aston Villa missed out on signing Strasbourg striker Stephane Bahoken in the January transfer window, according to Sport.sfr, after attempting to bring him in on a short-term loan deal.

And Steve Bruce’s side appear to be in danger of missing out again.

France Football stated on Wednesday that Aston Villa had renewed their interest in Bahoken with his contract set to expire at the end of this season. The 25-year-old, who made his international debut for Cameroon in March, is understood to be keen on a move to England.

But The Express are now reporting that Bahoken is a target for two Premier League sides, Everton and Newcastle United.

It is understood that the former Nice striker has been sounded out by The Magpies and The Toffees, both of whom could do with strengthening their attacking options this summer after finding goals hard to come by for long stretches of the campaign.

The Express claim that Brighton are also interested and are currently leading the chase after all but securing their Premier League survival with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.

But, on paper, Newcastle and Everton could be the two most enticing destinations for Bahoken this summer – and their bargaining position should only be strengthened if they seal a place in the Premier League top 10.

Bahoken has scored six goals in 14 Ligue 1 games this season, including one in a shock 2-1 win against runaway leaders PSG in December.
