Newcastle United are aiming to build for a brighter future and Slovan Bratislava’s Slovakian striker David Strelec is reportedly a key target.

For such a football mad city, the lack of locally sourced talent emerging through the Newcastle United youth system remains a real concern.
In the last decade, only one academy graduate has evolved into a genuine first-team regular at St James’ Park – defender Paul Dummett – with the likes of Rolando Aarons, Adam Armstrong and Sammy Ameobi failing to make the grade for one reason or another.
As a result, Newcastle are attempting to change their U23 set-up by adding talented youngsters from abroad; 17-year-old Yannick Toure of Young Boys is expected to arrive later in the summer.
And the Chronicle reports that he could be joined by Slovan Bratislava striker David Strelec.
A teenage centre-forward who represents Slovakia at U17 level, it is understood that Strelec is one of the key names on Newcastle’s radar as they aim to build for a brighter future on Tyneside.

The report adds that head of recruitment Steve Nickson has been tasked with bringing in players who can push the first team and it seems that Strelec, who made one senior appearance for Bratislava in 2017/18, fits the bill.
Newcastle released a whole host of their U23 players at the end of last season and it seems that they are ripping up the existing model on Tyneside in an attempt to start again from scratch.
