Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has reportedly wanted to sign Danny Ings for a while and Liverpool could sell.
Rafa Benitez is once again allegedly interested in bringing Danny Ings to St James’ Park.
The Northern Echo claimed back in the Autumn that the Newcastle boss wanted to sign the one-time England striker in January after failing to sign him on loan in the summer, only for Ings to reject a move to Tyneside in order to fight for his place at Anfield.
But having seemingly accepted that his career at Liverpool is all but over, it seems Ings is now more likely than ever to bid farewell to Merseyside, which should give Newcastle hope of finally striking a deal.
The Chronicle points out that a new centre forward is a priority for Benitez this summer. Alassane Plea is his number one target but Nice’s £27 million-rated striker is a target for a number of clubs and also appears to be beyond the Magpies’ budget.
Old-school targetman Salomon Rondon and Nicolai Jorgensen are also on Benitez’s radar but would not come cheap so the report claims that Benitez has put together a contingency plan – one that involves Ings.
The Telegraph claimed recently that Liverpool could allow Ings to leave on the cheap in order to make it easier for him to find a new club and this would suit Newcastle perfectly given their lack of funds.
