Tottenham Hotspur seem to be cutting out the middle man in the pursuit of Danish midfielder Mathias Jensen.

BT claimed back in December that Ajax were hoping to lure the 22-year-old Nordsjaelland talent to the Amsterdam ArenA with esteemed scout John Steen Olson at the heart of the deal, eight years after he brought another exciting Danish midfielder by the name of Christian Eriksen to the Dutch capital.

Eriksen, after three years at Ajax, signed for Tottenham. But it seems that, this time, Spurs are trying to nab Jensen from his homeland rather than let him continue his footballing education in the Total Voetbal finishing school.

Danish paper BT claim that Tottenham are also interested in Jensen who, like Eriksen, is a skilful and creative play-maker with an eye for a pass. The 5ft 8ins starlet has an impressive 11 goals and 10 assists in the Superliga this season and won the Danish Football Association’s Talent of the Year award in 2017.

Pierluigi Cappelluzzo (R) of Italy U20 is challenged by Mathias Jensen of Denmark U20 during the match between Italy U20 and Denmark U20 on April 27, 2016 in Legnano, Italy.

According to Ekstra Bladet, Jensen’s time at Nordsjaelland appears to be coming to a close. But the midfielder could be available for as little as £6 million, a fee that is huge in Danish football but mere pocket change to a club like Tottenham.

Tottenham paid just £11 million to sign Eriksen back in August 2013. Time will tell whether Jensen would prove to be even more of a bargain.
