League One high-flyers Sunderland are set to face League Two Morecambe in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday.
Sunderland’s terrific form is showing no signs of slowing down.
Jack Ross’s Black Cats beat Port Vale 2-1 away from home in the FA Cup first round on Sunday thanks to goals from George Honeyman and Lynden Gooch, meaning they have now won seven in a row since the 2-2 draw with Peterborough United at the start of October.
Ross is now expected to shuffle his pack and give a chance to some of his fringe players as Sunderland prepare to face League Two Morecambe in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night.
The Sunderland Echo reports that two of the club’s more forgettable summer signings, Glenn Loovens (below) and Alim Ozturk (above), are set to be given a chance potentially in a new-look central defensive partnership.
35-year-old Loovens has not played since coming off the bench in a 1-1 draw with Coventry City in September while Ozturk, who arrived from Boluspor on a free, has made just four appearances in League One this season.
The report adds that Dutch goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter is also likely to get a rare opportunity between the sticks against Morecambe, with experienced goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin likely to get a well-deserved rest.
