Sean Longstaff is arguably the most promising youngster in Newcastle United’s current squad and Rafa Benitez will reportedly give him a chance.

There have been far too few locally sourced talents emerging from the ranks of Newcastle United over the last few years. In fact, Paul Dummett is the only academy graduate to have really established himself as a regular starter since the days of Steven Taylor.

But Sean Longstaff might have the talent and the potential to be the next in line. A 20-year-old local lad who was spotted playing for the North Shields Athletic Juniors, the Chronicle reports that Longstaff is now on the verge of making his first-team debut.

Longstaff has never made an appearance for the Newcastle senior side but showed the supporters what he is all about with a fine loan spell at Blackpool last season. He scored nine goals for the League One side, including a couple of long-range stunners.

And it seems that Longstaff is one of the few Newcastle youngsters that manager Rafa Benitez is ready to put his faith in.

Newcastle are set to kick off their season with a pre-season clash against Irish outfit St Patrick’s Athletic on Tuesday night and it is understood that Longstaff will make his first ever appearance in the senior side.

The goal-scoring midfielder has been given a taste of first-team duties over the last few weeks, even conducting interviews alongside more experienced pros, and now he could get the chance to play alongside them, too.

Will Tuesday’s clash be the beginning of a long and fruitful Newcastle career?
