Everton have emerged as shock candidates to sign Justin Kluivert from Eredivisie side Ajax.

Justin Kluivert’s superb breakthrough at Ajax has seen the winger linked with some of the biggest clubs on the continent.

The Sun claimed back in March that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the 19-year-old, but his legendary father Patrick has encouraged his son to follow in his footsteps and join La Liga giants Barcelona instead.

So reports in Tuttomercatoweb that Kluivert could genuinely join Everton this summer should raise eyebrows.

It is understood that Kluivert will join forces with the renowned super-agent Mino Raiola, a man the Mirror claimed Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri was keen to establish a relationship with at Goodison Park.

Raiola, who is also the new agent of PSV talent-spotter Marcel Brands, has the know-how and the contacts to bring top class talent to the blue half of Merseyside, at least in the eyes of Moshiri.

And reports that Everton are now a ‘concrete’ option to sign Kluivert this summer should show exactly what sort of benefits can be accrued from a relationship with one of the most powerful individuals in the transfer market.

Kluivert scored 10 goals and set up five more in a superb Eredivisie season for Ajax, who finished second behind rivals PSV.

Interestingly, Ajax CEO Edwin Van Der Sar told Ziggo Sport over the weekend that Raiola was trying to push Kluivert towards the Amsterdam ArenA exit – a tactic the agent is not exactly a stranger to.
