Ryan Kent could leave Premier League runners-up Liverpool this summer but is he heading to the Championship with Boro?
Middlesbrough are interested in signing Liverpool winger Ryan Kent this summer, according to Goal, and their hopes have been boosted after the appointment of Jonathan Woodgate as the club’s new manager.
The highly-rated winger appears to be at a crossroads in his career. Kent has returned to Anfield after a superb loan spell at Rangers but he is still miles away from forcing his way into Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI.
According to Goal, Kent either wants to stay and fight for a place at Liverpool or join another club on a permanent basis. After a series of loan spells in recent seasons, at Barnsley, Freiburg, Bristol City and the Gers, he doesn’t want another short-term spell.
But Middlesbrough would have to stump up around £12 million if they want to bring the jet-heeled winger to the Riverside – a fee that might well be beyond a club who’s parachute payments have just run out.
Yet, Woodgate’s excellent relationship with Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards could stand Boro in good stead as they aim to sign a player they have wanted since the summer of 2017.
Kent, who scored six goals and set up nine more for Rangers in 2018/19, has recently rejected a loan move to Leeds United.
