Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in signing Adama Traore from Middlesbrough.

It is well documented that Adama Traore has an £18 million release clause in his Middlesbrough contract amid interest from a whole host of clubs, including the big-money, nouveau riche Wolverhampton Wanderers.

But just because Wolves have Chinese billionaires funding their moves in the market, it does not mean they have lost any sense of value.

According to the Express and Star, Traore has become the Black Country club’s number one target as Nuno Espirito Santo aims to add a new forward to his ranks. But it is reported that Wolves do not believe £18 million is a reasonable fee for the former Barcelona youngster.

As a result, they have made a bid for the 22-year-old which falls below his £18 million release clause. Although the Express and Star reports that this has been rejected by Middlesbrough.

The jet-heeled Traore enjoyed his most consistent season in English football in 2017/18, adding some much needed end product to his remarkable athletic ability. The winger, who moved to the Riverside from Aston Villa in 2016 with Albert Adomah going the other way, scored five goals and assisted ten more as Boro reached the play-off semi-finals.

And manager Tony Pulis said on Friday that “everybody here is hoping and praying he stays,” as reported by the Express and Star.

Unless Wolves trigger his release clause, Pulis’s dream might come true.
