Neal Maupay’s 16 Championship goals for Brentford has reportedly made him a target for Boro and Aston Villa in the January transfer window.

There is bad news for Brentford on Wednesday morning with top-scorer Neal Maupay linked once again with a move away from Griffin Park.

The in-form Frenchman has been heavily tipped to reunite with Dean Smith at Aston Villa in recent weeks having scored 16 goals in the Championship so far this season (Sky).

But a potential move to Villa looks more unlikely now, with Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham seemingly set to remain in the Midlands until the end of the season.

Nonetheless, Brentford fans cannot afford to relax just yet with Sky adding that another second tier outfit, Middlesbrough, are interested.

Goals have been a major problem for Tony Pulis’s side with only one team in the Championship scoring fewer home goals this season. That does not bode well for a side with genuine promotion ambitions.

Maupay would be a fine addition but the report adds that The Bees are demanding a league record £20 million fee for their star man. Middlesbrough have money to spend but it has been pointed out that they have reservations about paying so much for one player.

So, as it stands, it seems that Griffin Park could be Maupay’s home for the next few months
