Birger Meling never made a first-team appearance for Championship outfit Middlesbrough but could reportedly return to the Riverside from Rosenborg.

The name Birger Meling might not be too familiar to Middlesbrough fans.
After all, the Norwegian spent just one year on Riverside between 2013 and 2014, failing to make a single first team appearance in Boro colours. After a brief spell in their academy, he left to join Staebek in his homeland – but reports are suggesting that Meling could make a shock return to Middlesbrough before the transfer window slams shut.
Dagbladet claims that Middlesbrough were one of a number of Championship sides who sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old in action during Rosenborg’s Champions League qualifier against Celtic last month.
Meling impressed in Glasgow, scoring during his side’s 3-1 defeat to Brendan Rodgers’ Scottish Premiership champions.

It will be interesting now to see whether Boro make a bid to bring the six-time Norway international back to the North East. In 17 Eliteserien games for Rosenborg in 2018, Meling has produced an impressive six assists.
George Friend has made the left-back spot his own for Boro in recent years but is not the most productive of players going forward, although he did net on the opening day of the new Championship season.
Meling, then, would give Tony Pulis something different.
