Premier League giants Everton could let midfielder Mo Besic leave Goodison Park this January with Championship promotion hopefuls Boro keen.

There is space in Middlesbrough’s squad for a new midfielder after Adam Forshaw completed his £4.5 million move to Championship rivals Leeds United.

And according to TEAMtalk, Boro are looking at Everton’s forgotten man Mo Besic before the transfer window slams shut in two days’ time.

The Bosnia international has not made a single Premier League start for the Toffees this season with Morgan Schneiderlin, Tom Davies, Idrissa Gana Gueye and young Beni Baningime all ahead of him in the pecking order.

And it is understood that Everton manager Sam Allardyce will let Besic leave on loan for the rest of the season, with a number of European sides keen to strike a deal.

Gianluca Di Marzio claimed earlier in January that Serie A side Torino had been hoping to sign the once highly-rated midfield prospect, but it appears that Boro might now be his most likely destination.

Manager Tony Pulis has indicated that he will not be spending any money between now and the end of the transfer window but is open to the idea of bringing reinforcements to the Riverside via short-term loan deals.

And if Besic can stay fit, Boro will have a hard-working, tenacious and surprisingly technical midfielder on their hands.

That is a rather substantial ‘if’, however. Besic has suffered a whole host of injuries since moving to Everton after impressing at the 2014 World Cup and only recently returned from almost a year out with a cruciate ligament injury.
