Former Boavista boss Jorge Simao has emerged as a shock candidate to take over at Middlesbrough this summer, as reported by the Telegraph.
Three weeks after the sacking of Tony Pulis, we are no closer to finding out who will replace him in the Riverside dugout despite links with a whole host of managers from Nigel Pearson to Michael Reiziger, Chris Hughton to Chris Wilder.
But Simao, who neither knows the club nor the Championship, would certainly be a left-field appointment.
The Telegraph claims that the 42-year-old has been interviewed for the vacant post at Middlesbrough with owner Steve Gibson keen to consider a wide range of options from all over Europe.
Simao, who was a nomadic midfielder in his playing days, has spent his entire managerial career in Portugal and has coached a number of top flight clubs.
He most recently spent almost two years in charge of Boavista but he was sacked in January after winning just six of his 22 league games in the 2018/19 season.
