Former Sunderland and Manchester United goalkeeper Max Johnstone could be set to earn a contract with Leeds United.

The identity of Leeds United’s mystery goalkeeper has been revealed. And no, it’s not Gianluigi Buffon.
A trialist started between the sticks for Leeds in their 5-1 pre-season friendly victory against Tadcaster Albion on Wednesday night but it didn’t take too long before his identity became clear.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the man in question was Michael ‘Max’ Johnstone.
While his name might not immediately register with you, there are a few reasons why a player Leeds are clearly interested in signing should raise eyebrows.
After all, he is the brother of West Brom number one Sam, one of the better shot-stoppers in the Championship.

20-year-old Max also spent two years at Leeds’ bitter rivals Manchester United between 2016 and 2018 before joining Sunderland. Luck wasn’t on the youngsters’ side as he never made a first-team appearance for The Black Cats, however, and found himself without a club earlier in the summer after being released.
Though Johnstone didn’t have to wait around too long before Leeds showed interest. But how did he get on at the 2,000 capacity Ings Lane?
Well, he didn’t have much to do as Leeds dominated their Northern Premier League division one opponents, though his hopes of a clean sheet were ruined when left-back Leif Davis sold him short with a back pass, gifting Tadcaster the easiest goal of the night.
