Rangers’ goalkeeper is said to be interesting Wigan Athletic.

Rangers’ back-up goalkeeper Matt Gilks will leave Ibrox in January, the Daily Record reports, which means a place may open up in Mark Warburton’s squad for Scunthorpe United’s Luke Daniels.

34-year-old Gilks arrived in Glasgow in the summer as an experienced understudy to number one Wes Foderingham, but his inability to play even a minute of league football this season appears to have encouraged him to seek more regular action in the final stretch of his career.

The Daily Record reports that Wigan Athletic are keen on signing the goalkeeper, who was first choice for Blackpool during their unforgettable season in the Premier League. These developments mean the likelihood of Rangers signing Scunthorpe shot-stopper Daniels have surely increased.

HITC reported recently that Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town were challenging the Scottish giants for the signature of a goalkeeper who will be available on a free this summer.

Daniels has been in inspired form for The Irons this season, laying the foundations for a promotion push, while his reducing price tag means he would be the ideal signing for a club aiming to scrimp and save in order to close the gap on Celtic.
