Premier League outfit Crystal Palace look set to be frustrated in their reported pursuit of Augsburg’s Bundesliga defender Martin Hinteregger.

Crystal Palace are keen to acquire Austrian international centre-back Martin Hinteregger for £13.5 million, but Gazzetta Dello Sport claims that he has little interest in moving to Selhurst Park this summer.

A commanding defender with 39 caps for his country, Hinteregger spent the second half of last season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt and looks all-but certain to leave his parent club Augsburg in the coming weeks.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach and Red Bull Salzburg man has been up for sale since January after a high-profile fall out with the club’s coaching staff.

“Should a serious inquiry arrive, we will consider it,” general manager Stefan Reuter told Fussball Transfers five months ago.

But the chances of Hinteregger joining Crystal Palace in the Premier League look slim.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the 26-year-old is a target for Roy Hodgson’s side and the Eagles were hoping that a £13 million bid would be enough to secure his services. But the report points out that Hinteregger would rather move to Italy instead with Lazio a potential destination.

Palace will surely be disappointed by Hinteregger’s alleged stance. The Londoners could lose long-serving Scott Dann this summer while Mamadou Sakho endured plenty of injury issues last season, leaving Hodgson’s side short of options at the back.
