Everton finally got their man when they hired Marco Silva in the summer, but could he leave for SL Benfica?

Marco Silva the head coach

Marco Silva does not tend to stick around for long. At the age of just 41, the Portuguese has managed six different clubs in the last seven years and recently spent a combined 48 games in charge of Hull City and Watford.

After just 12 matches in charge of Everton, Silva’s future has been brought into question once again.

According to Portuguese publication CM Jornal, the current Toffees head coach has been lined up by Benfica to replace Rui Vitoria at the Primeira Liga giants.

Vitoria led Benfica to the league title in 2016 and 2017 but the Eagles lost their crown to domestic rivals Porto last season and they are currently third in the table, having won just five of their opening eight matches.

CM Jornal believes that Silva is one of a number of names in the frame should Benfica decide to part with Vitoria (below). Two former Sporting Lisbon bosses, Leonardo Jardim and Jorge Jesus, are also understood to be on the wish list, as is the current Braga coach Abel Ferreira.

But Everton have made some impressive strides under Silva, the Toffees looking much improved after a dreadful season under Ronald Koeman, David Unsworth and Sam Allardyce.

So it is hugely unlikely that they would be willing to let him leave, having spent so long attempting to lure the highly-rated coach to Merseyside.
