Manchester United are on the verge of winning the race to sign Swansea City winger Daniel James as they look to begin what is expected to be a substantial summer overhaul, according to Sky Sports (10 May, 9:00am).

The highly-rated Welsh international has been tipped to make the move to the Premier League for a number of months now, having shone in the Championship for Graham Potter’s Swans since making his breakthrough at the start of the 2018/19 campaign.

James has been linked with Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham of late but it seems that United are set to beat their top six rivals to the punch.

Sky claims that the 21-year-old is set to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing for a fee of around £15 million. This represents a substantial windfall for Swansea, where James has just a year remaining on his contract.

Sky add that James has been recommended to United by none other than Ryan Giggs, the current Wales manager who handed the youngster his international debut recently.

James is a self-confessed Liverpool fan and nearly joined United’s bitter rivals Leeds in the January transfer window, only for a deadline-day deal to fall through at the eleventh hour.
