Alderweireld is expected to be sold by Spurs with Premier League rivals Manchester United ready to pay big for the central defender.

Toby Alderweireld appears to have played his last game for Tottenham Hotspur.
It is understood that Manchester United are keen to sign Alderweireld but would have to make him the most expensive defender in the club’s history, dwarfing the £31 million they paid Benfica for Victor Lindelof a year ago.

The MEN states Tottenham are ready to sell Alderweireld this summer with a £55 million deal on the table rather than lose him in a year’s time when a release clause will be activated in his contract, meaning the former Southampton man will be available for just £25 million.
And it seems that United, who will once again splash the cash this summer, are willing to pay a record-breaking fee now rather than risk waiting 12 months in the hope that they will be able to sign Alderweireld for £30 million less.

Spurs appear to have been preparing for the 29-year-old’s exit for some time. Pochettino barely played Alderweireld in the second half of the season even after he returned from a hamstring injury and young, promising centre-backs like Matthijs de Ligt and Jamaal Lascelles have been heavily linked, via the Independent.
Spurs also tied down club-record signing Davinson Sanchez to a new improved contract last week, one year after he arrived from Ajax.
