Crystal Palace’s Wan-Bissaka has shone in the Premier League but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could reportedly move for PSG’s Thomas Meunier instead.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is having second thoughts about a potential summer deal for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka due to the rapid rise of Diogo Dalot, according to the Sun (12 April, page 58).
21-year-old Wan-Bissaka has come from nowhere to become one of the most promising young talents in English football over the last 12 months with his outstanding performances for Crystal Palace turning plenty of heads.
The Sun claims that Manchester United were keen but Solskjaer is wary about having two dazzling young right-backs competing for the same place in the starting XI.
Dalot, a £19 million signing from Porto last summer, has gone from strength to strength in recent months after all.
Interestingly, the report adds that Solskjaer could now turn his attention to Thomas Meunier, a self-confessed Manchester United fan who has been tipped to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer after falling behind Thilo Kehrer in the pecking order.
The 27-year-old Belgium international is used to playing a supporting role at PSG so he’d perhaps be a little more open to the idea of competing for a place with Dalot than Wan-Bissaka, who needs to play regular first-team football to fulfil his huge potential.
