Tottenham Hotspur could lose Alderweireld this summer with Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United both reportedly interested.

Manchester City’s stunning Champions League defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in midweek might have seen VAR make the headlines once again but you can guarantee that some remarkably sloppy defending will not have passed Pep Guardiola by.
But could a potential solution to an increasingly visible problem be quite close to home? Toby Alderweireld started both of those quarter-final clashes, and played at the Etihad again in a Premier League clash on Saturday, and the fact that he has a £25 million release clause in his contract has not gone unnoticed.
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City will go head-to-head with rivals United to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld this summer.
United famously beat City to both Alexis Sanchez and Fred last year, although both have proven to be expensive flops at Old Trafford, and the two Manchester giants look set for another transfer battle with the window set to open in just a few weeks’ time.
The Belgian international, who joined Spurs from Southampton for £11.4 million, is also due to become a free agent in 12 months’ time and looks like a rare bargain at £25 million. He is, after all, one of Europe’s very best defenders in the eyes of Pep Guardiola himself, according to The Sun.
TEAMtalk, meanwhile, adds that City want a new centre-back with Vincent Kompany’s fitness issues well established while both John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi have apparently failed to live up to expectations.

And Alderweireld is one of the few players in the Premier League, in any position, who has the talent to stroll into City’s star-studded starting XI. He’d be an upgrade on Stones and a potentail replacement for Kompany or Otamendi, who Goal claims is open to leaving this summer.
So no wonder his uncertain future has caught Guardiola’s eye.
