Real Madrid’s La Liga legend Luka Modric could reportedly have returned to the Premier League with Spurs this summer.

Many Tottenham Hotspur fans are already infuriated with the club’s failure to sign a single player during the summer transfer window. And reports that they rejected the chance to bring back Luka Modric won’t help ease the frustrations.

After winning the Golden Ball at the Russia World Cup for his stellar role in Croatia’s run to the final, Modric has been the subject of relentless transfer speculation. He had been expected to join his compatriots Marcelo Brozovic, Ivan Perisic and Srme Vrsaljko at Inter Milan but now seems likely to remain as Real Madrid’s influential number 10.

But in clams made by Bein Sports (broadcast on 24 August 2018, 12pm), Modric’s entourage offered Tottenham the chance to re-sign one of the world’s greatest midfielders, a player they lost in a £30 million move to Real six years ago.

It was even stated that the 32-year-old was interested in re-joining the club he signed for 10 years ago from Dinamo Zagreb.

But, for whatever reason, it is claimed that Tottenham turned down the chance to bring Modric back to North London. Perhaps it had something to do with his age with chairman Daniel Levy famously preferring to sign younger, hungry players with a big potential re-sale value.

Either way, Modric would have walked into Tottenham’s starting XI. And, if they suffer another campaign of near misses, this could come back to haunt them.
