Premier League outfit Everton have seen a bid rejected for Barcelona’s La Liga champion and left-back Lucas Digne already in the transfer window.
After months of speculation which has seen countless left-backs being linked with a move to Goodison Park, it seems that Everton have finally settled on their first-choice transfer target.
And manager Marco Silva hasn’t exactly been subtle about his interest in signing Barcelona’s Lucas Digne; “This will not be easy, but we will try,” the former Watford boss told The Star this week.
Fortunately for Everton, however, it seems that everything is lining up now. The Star pointed out that Digne, who made just eight La Liga starts as Barca reclaimed their title last season, is aware that he needs to leave in order to pursue regular first-team football.
He was omitted from France’s World Cup squad after barely featuring at the Camp Nou.
And latest reports today in Sport claim that Everton have now travelled to Spain in an attempt to get the deal done, although Barca will not sell the defender for less than £14 million – the same fee they paid to sign Digne two years’ ago.
It is understood, however, that the former PSG and Roma left-back is keen on a move to Everton and, crucially, Barca are willing to sell as they do not believe that Digne is an ‘essential’ part of their plans.
In fact, the Catalan giants have already planned to promote 19-year-old Marc Cucurella to the first-team to replace him. Digne to Everton now looks like a real possibility.
