Simone Zaza could be offered an escape route out of his West Ham nightmare with Napoli keen on bringing him back to Serie A, according to Calciomercato.
The Italian international has endured a torrid time in recent months, drawing ire for his subpar performances since joining the Hammers after being ridiculed for a bizarre penalty miss in the Azzurri’s shootout defeat to Germany at Euro 2016 (below).
Zaza arrived at West Ham on loan from Juventus with an obligation to sign him permanently once he plays 15 games for Slaven Bilic’s side and, according to Football Italia, the struggling capital club are now considering dropping the 25-year-old to avoid triggering the agreement.
Therefore, a move to Napoli appears to suit both parties, with the Serie A giants desperate to add a forward to their ranks following a six-month lay off for star striker Arkadiusz Milik (below).
As reported by Calciomercato, Zaza is headlining Napoli’s shortlist alongside reported Liverpool targets Gregoire Defrel and Leonardo Pavoletti.
The majority of West Ham fans won’t be too concerned to see the supposedly dynamic frontman depart after just a few months in the Premier League, with his inability to find the net or even pose a threat in any of his four appearances making a mockery of his reputation as an aggressive, technically proficient centre-forward.
