Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League runners-up Liverpool reportedly want a Sporting Lisbon midfielder but it is not Bruno Fernandes.
Liverpool have expressed an interest in Sporting Lisbon starlet Idrissa Doumbia after he impressed against them in this week’s pre-season clash in the Bronx, according to Record.
Bruno Fernandes was the Sporting player everyone was talking about before, during and after a thrilling 2-2 draw in the International Champions Cup.
The Portuguese international has been linked with a whole host of clubs this summer, including Liverpool, and provided a timely reminder of his qualities with a goal and an assist against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
But, according to Record, Fernandes was not the Sporting player who caught Liverpool’s eye.
The 21-year-old Ivorian started the game in his favoured central midfield role and caught the eye with his intelligent passing and dynamic style.
Doumbia is hardly a regular at Sporting yet, having made just four Primeira Liga starts last season, but it seems that one excellent pre-season display has opened the door for a potential move to the Champions of Europe.
Record claims that Liverpool see him as a potential star of the future having been impressed by the way Doumbia acquitted himself against Liverpool’s star studded midfield.
But if you ask the Anfield faithful, there’s only one Sporting player they want this summer and it’s a Nations League winner with 32 goals and 13 assists to his name last season.
