Premier League giants Liverpool travelled to Russia to watch Turkey defender Caglar Soyuncu but Wolfsburg’s Yunus Malli stood out in Moscow.
But the same outlet is reporting the following morning that Soyuncu’s team-mate caught The Reds’ eye too.
It was Yunus Malli’s superb 25 yard drive that earned Mircea Lucescu’s side a draw away at the World Cup hopes, his first goal in 18 international appearances.
And Turkish Football are reporting that Liverpool’s scouts were very impressed with the 26-year-old midfielder’s second half performance at the VEB Arena in Moscow. Malli changed the game after coming on at the interval and his well-taken goal, drilled into the bottom corner after running at a backtracking Russia defence, was just rewards for a fine display.
Like Freiburg defender Soyuncu, Malli plies his trade in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. He scored five goals and set up four more last season but, in truth, has never quite lived up to expectations at the 2009 Bundesliga champions, failing to recapture the excellent form from his time at Mainz.
Malli was crucial, however, as Wolfsburg beat Holstein Kiel in the relegation play-off in May, linking superbly with Liverpool loanee Divock Origi to score in a 3-1 first-leg win.
