Liverpool fans know how good Lorenzo Insigne can be.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have only lost twice in all competitions this season and one of those came away at Napoli in the Champions League a fortnight ago. Carlo Ancelotti’s team outplayed Liverpool comprehensively at the Stadio San Paolo, but were stuttering towards a frustrating goalless draw until Insigne slid in to score the winner with a few minutes to go.

No wonder he allegedly caught Klopp’s eye.

According to Rai Sport Live (16 October, 9:00am), Chelsea’s former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri is keen to reunite with Insigne at Stamford Bridge. But, the report adds, Liverpool are ready to challenge their Premier League rivals for the Italy international in the New Year.

Insigne is the sort of marquee signing that could transform Liverpool from attractive nearly men into genuine Premier League challengers.

But whether the right-footed left winger is a viable target is up for debate. Insigne has a contract for another four years, and Napoli’s outspoken president Aurelio di Laurentiis said recently that he would not be sold for less than £180 million, as reported by Corriere dello Sport.
