Premier League giants Liverpool want to make Alisson the new number one at Anfield but Serie A side Roma will not let him go for cheap.
Alisson might not be a name that strikes fear into the heart of opposition forwards but make no mistake, Roma’s Brazil international goalkeeper is one of the best in the business.
PSG, Real Madrid and Juventus are also reportedly interested in the former Internacional number one who, according to Roma’s former goalkeeping coach, Roberto Negrisola, is the Lionel Messi equivalent of shot-stoppers.
Yet with Roma valuing Alisson at around £45 million, Liverpool would have to make him the most expensive goalkeeper in footballing history to bring him to Merseyside, eclipsing the fee Manchester City spent on Ederson last summer.
But if the Italian giants get their way, Alisson could cost even more in the very near future.
Calciomercato report that Eusebio Di Francesco’s side are hoping to tie down Brazil’s number one to a new contract to reflect his growing value in the market. It is understood that Roma will include a buyout clause in his renewed deal meaning clubs from outside of Italy will have to pay £80 million to enter talks with a player Roma signed for just £8 million in the summer of 2016.
The report adds that Bayern Munich, who have been without Manuel Neuer since September due to injury, are the latest side to express an interest in Alisson.
Liverpool clearly need a ‘keeper. But whether they are willing to break their transfer record again to sign one is another matter.
