Jasper Cillessen has made just two La Liga appearances for Barcelona since 2016 and could reportedly be offered a fresh start by Liverpool.

Loris Karius has surely played his last game as Liverpool’s number one. And it seems that Jurgen Klopp has identified three possible upgrades on the stricken German, whose horror show in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid is already the stuff of legend.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are interested in Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Roma’s Brazilian international Alisson Becker. Neither would come cheap, however.

Oblak has a clause in his contract worth around £100 million while the Guardian claim that Roma would demand around £79 million for Alisson.

Jasper Cillessen, then, would stand out as a cheaper, more viable alternative.

It is understood that Liverpool have turned their attention towards the Dutch shot-stopper but Barcelona have claimed that Cillessen is ‘untransferable’. But, the report stresses, he has a release clause in his contract worth just over £50 million which, while still a hefty fee, is far less than the figure Roma want for Alisson and half the price of Oblak.

29-year-old Cillessen, who has made just two La Liga appearances in the last two seasons, has made it clear that he wants to play more first-team football so would surely be tempted by a move to Anfield, where he would be the number one ahead of Karius and Simon Mignolet.

And if Liverpool trigger that £50 million clause, Barca will have no say in Cillessen’s future.
