Liverpool need a new goalkeeper but will they raid Premier League rivals Chelsea for the Stamford Bridge number one Thibaut Courtois?

Liverpool and Real Madrid could be about to go head-to-head again. But this time, there is not a trophy on the line but one of the world’s very best goalkeepers.

It has been well documented for some time that Thibaut Courtois is facing an uncertain future at Chelsea. The Belgian’s contract expires in the summer of 2019 and, despite being in negotiations for several months, the Blues still appear to be some way away from tying down their long-standing number one.

And, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Courtois’s precarious contract situation has been noted in Merseyside and Madrid.

The report suggests that Real Madrid, as is the case almost every summer, are once again looking to upgrade Keylor Navas. And, with David de Gea and Kepa seemingly no longer available, Real could now turn their attentions to a goalkeeper who won La Liga during a brilliant loan spell at city rivals Atletico Madrid back in 2014.

But, Gianluca Di Marzio add, Liverpool could suddenly enter the race, too.

After Lorus Karius’s horror show in Kiev, in which he gifted Real two goals in their 3-1 triumph, the Reds have been linked with a whole host of talented shot-stoppers including Alisson Becker, Jan Oblak and Jasper Cillessen.

But signing Courtois from Premier League rivals Chelsea would be perhaps the biggest statement of the lot.

The report states that Chelsea face a decision with the former Genk prodigy as they face losing him on a free in 12 months. Selling Courtois to Liverpool, however, would not go down well at Stamford Bridge.
