Premier League giants Liverpool are battling Real Madrid and PSG for Serie A star Alisson Becker ahead of the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp might have publically backed Loris Karius as Liverpool’s current number one but, behind the scenes, it appears the Anfield giants are working hard to bring in a much-needed upgrade.

As reported by Sky Sports, Liverpool have entered talks to sign the Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker in the summer in what could be another example of the club’s new-found willingness to break the bank for new signings.

Roma's Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson throws the ball during the UEFA Champions League Group C football match AS Roma vs FK Qarabag on December 5, 2017 at the Olympic stadium in Rome.

Virgil van Dijk became the most expensive defender in football history when Liverpool paid Southampton £75 million last month and the Reds would have to break another world-record to bring Alisson to Merseyside.

Because Sky reports that Roma value the former Internacional shot-stopper at around £62 million, meaning Liverpool will have to pay more than Manchester City splashed out on Ederson, who Alisson is keeping out of the Brazil starting XI.

Talks are understood to be at a very early stage and taking place via an intermediary, however, meaning there is a long way to go before Alisson is unveiled as a Liverpool player.

Interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain certainly makes Liverpool’s task harder.

And Calciomercato reported earlier this week that Roma are still hoping to tie Alisson down to a new contract, with a buyout clause set at £88 million to ensure they get top dollar for one of the world’s best goalkeepers.
