Report: Liverpool considering shock move for Iker Casillas

Iker Casillas is leaving Porto this summer – but will he finally move to the Premier League and, more specifically, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool?

Liverpool’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper seems to have led them to one of the finest shot-stoppers of his generation, if not the history of world football.

According to the Mirror, the Reds were hopeful of striking a £40 million deal for Stoke City’s England international Jack Butland while the Brazil number one Allison Becker, who is going from strength to strength at Roma, also has plenty of admirers at Anfield.

But Liverpool’s alleged interest in one Iker Casillas has come right out of the blue.

According to Spanish outlet Mi Otra Liga, the decorated shot-stopper, currently playing for FC Porto, could be on his way to Merseyside this summer.

At 36, Casillas is one of the most successful goalkeepers of all time. He won five La Liga crowns and three Champions Leagues during a trophy-laden career at Real Madrid and lifted two European Championship titles with Spain either side of the 2010 World Cup triumph.

Liverpool fans recognise legends and, during the goalless Champions League draw between Porto and the Reds at Anfield, Casillas was given a standing ovation by the home support.

But after losing his place between the sticks to Jose Sa this season and starting just 13 Primeira Liga games, Casillas will leave at the end of the campaign.

Liverpool be warned: the 167-cap veteran is not the world class goalkeeper he once was. But imagine what Lorus Karius could learn by training alongside the one and only Casillas.
