Liverpool have taken a huge step towards securing the signature of Germany’s next play-making star Mahmoud Dahoud, with Serie A champions Juventus accepting defeat and pursing alternative targets, Calciomercato report.

Syrian-born Dahoud has enjoyed a whirlwind 12 months since breaking into the Borussia Monchengladbach first-team last season, with superb individual performances in both domestic and European competition against the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Barcelona bringing him to the attention of prying eyes the continent over.

Among others, Liverpool and Juventus have been frequently linked with a move for the talented 20-year-old.

The Bianconeri’s desire to add a trequartista to their already talented midfield has underlined their chase for a beautifully balanced playmaker, who’s work-rate, quick feet and eye for a killer pass, highlighted by his sumptuous assist in Gladbach’s Champions League defeat to Barcelona this season, putting him at the top of their wishlist.

However, Calciomercato claim that Juve are now stepping up their pursuit of Atalanta prodigy Franck Kessie and Argentine wonder-kid Rodrigo Bentacur with the Premier League leaders hot favourites to supplement their already technically strong attack with Dahoud.

The Germany Under-21 international has just 18 months to run on his current deal at Borussia Park, with Bild reporting that a clause in his contract means he will be available for as little as £8.6 million in the summer.
